Neil P. Whiteley

Biography

Until fairly recently I was fully employed in the IT Industry for many years which left little time for my passion for photography which of course suffered as a result. In 2003 I made a conscious decision to become self employed and now run a small Web site design business called Tag2 which is based in North Wales where I live. Although Tag2 keeps me very busy, it doesn't make huge demands on my time like my previous career did and so now I find that I can once again get out and about with my camera occasionally.

I am originally from South Manchester and moved to North Wales in 1999 with my work. I had spent some time here previously, on family holidays as a child and in 1997 when I passed through whilst walking the Offa's Dyke national trail and I have always loved the natural beauty of the area and the way in which the rural areas contrast starkly with the urban areas, particularly along the north coast.

Certain areas of North Wales, such as the Snowdonia National Park, are well documented photographically as you would imagine, however much of Denbighshire, Conwy and Flintshire are not, or if they are the images are not available to see or buy on the Web or anywhere else for that matter. Because of this I have decided, at least for the time being, that I will concentrate my efforts in these areas, if for no other reason than to show that beauty can be found almost anywhere in North Wales, not just in the National Parks.

I now work entirely digitally having made the switch this year 2005. Modern digital SLRs produce outstanding results and the benefits associated with digital photography far out way any arguments that may be raised by the purists, in my opinion. Working this way means that I can double check exposure and composition "on the fly", which allows me to come away from a days shoot with a far greater proportion of usable images than I could previously and I can process my images and have them available on the Web or for print the same day. When time is limited, as it is for me, this makes the difference between being able to function as a semi-professional photographer or not.

I hope that you enjoy browsing my gallery and if you find anything that you like, consider buying a print, I could do with some new equipment and the opportunity to use it more!
